Organizing Indy: Sort Support Pantry Makeover

    September 15, 2020

Wow, it’s been a hot minute since I’ve put my “blogging cap” on, but here I am y ‘all! Today’s post is all about home organization and my experience working with Lisa Eckerle from Sort Support Indy. Lisa is a professional organizer here in Indy, and let me tell you: you don’t know how much you need her in your life!

The Virgo in me LOVES organization. There’s just something so satisfying about a well organized space, don’t you think? While I love the aesthetic and functionality of having organized spaces, I’m probably not the best person leave in charge when it comes to the initial plan. I tend to accumulate things and don’t have the overall “vision”, if you will. But once a system is in place, you better believe I’m a happy camper!

We moved recently (haven’t even been in our new home for a month yet) and Lisa had reached out to me about the possibility of collaborating to whip my closet into shape. The problem is, I don’t quite have a “closet” yet. I plan on turning a spare bedroom into a closet/dressing room and that project hasn’t quite started.

I did however, have a large pantry space, that God knows I needed help with immediately. So instead of a closet, I asked if she’d be interested in working together on my pantry.

Our last house had a teeny weeny pantry, and our dining room was overrun with kitchen gadgets, party platters and small appliances. Like, our dining space wasn’t even usable. When we looked at this house, I was in LOVE with the pantry space- it’s a walk-in pantry, with tons of open shelving underneath to keep all those random things. Honestly, this pantry was one of the huge selling points of this house for me, and I mean it when I say that it’s now one of my favorite spaces in the house!

I wasn’t kidding when I said we have a lot of kitchen stuff! Lol. Peep Jolene!

Usually, Lisa would start with a pantry that is already full, but this project was a little different in that literally everything I had was still in boxes. This was a fresh start! She came over on two separate occasions: one day to measure the spaces and help me sort dry goods into categories, and a second day to actually put everything in it’s place and containers along with labels. She was so easy to work with and took out any of the guesswork for me. I worked long side of her for much of the process, which I’m not sure is normal. Heck, she probably wanted me to get out of her way, but it was such a huge undertaking I wanted to make sure I was familiar with the placement of everything and she also asked for my input on what was going to be most practical and functional for our household.

Most of the baskets, bins and label clips seen here are from The container Store. Lisa used her Cricut Joy to die cut the words themselves.

Here is what my pantry looked like before we started:

I believe this pantry space used to be the laundry room in the original construction of the home. Our house was built in 1981, and as a REALTOR I have the access to look up past listing photos and see what the home used to look like, each time it was listed in the past, so that was kind of fun to see how the home itself and space had transformed over the years.

Lastly-let’s address the elephant in the room- duhh nuhh nuhh . . . the “diaper” label on one of the baskets in the background of a photo. YOU GUYS. I’m not pregnant, or that careless, LOLing rn btw. . . if I were prego I would let you all know in a way better way than a basket labelled “diapers”. The diaper basket is for one of my little dogs, and all our pet supplies are also in the pantry.

Lastly, I wanted to mention that Sort Support offers organizational services for all spaces of your home, whether it be your office, closet, play room, whatever it is! You can even book Lisa for a virtual consultation, provide her measurements and she comes up with a plan for you to fit the space, including what systems/containers you’ll need and where to install them. In fact, I just had one of these virtual consults with Lisa last week regarding my closet space. I can’t wait for that to come together and share that with you all too!
