Brunch in Indy Series: The Metro Diner

September 12, 2017

Today kicks off my first post for a new series I’m embarking on for Big Hair and Foodie Fare. I’m calling it “Brunch In Indy”: A series of local spots for brunch obsessed Hoosiers.

Metro Diner: Plainfield

If you’re a brunch afficionado and in the Indianapolis area, chances are that you’ve been to one of Indy’s Metro Diner’s locations. (If you haven’t maybe you’ll want to make a trip after you read this post). I had been to Metro Diner once before their PR team reached out to me to do this post, so I was super excited when they asked me to come check out their new Plainfield location (302 N Dan Jones Rd Plainfield, IN).  I would describe Metro Diner’s style as “classic meets modern diner with a twist” . Chicken and waffles? Um, yea- I’ll be there.

Ok, so as you can probably guess, I indeed ordered the chicken and waffles (with two mimosas-whoopsie!) We sat at the bar overlooking all the cooks whipping up all this yummy brunch goodness. One thing I noticed about this location was how friendly the staff was- we sat down and every cook behind the counter waved and smiled and asked us how we were- I’m a vibe person and I was totally feeling the positivity in this place!

Metro Diner: Chicken and Waffles

These are served up with a house-made strawberry butter and spicy syrup- a blend of maple syrup and Louisiana Hot Sauce. The chicken is perfectly seasoned and crunchy (I’ve found that often time’s when I order chicken and waffles, the fried chicken is sub-par) the waffles are delightfully crispy, and the strawberry butter is softened for easy spreading. YUM.

Aaron ordered the  spicy honey chicken and biscuit- equally delicious!

Metro Diner has been featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and serves breakfast all day. Hours vary locally, but I’ve listed all Indiana locations below for you- as well as a link to their menu. Prepare to drool.

One dish I want to give an honorable

mention (that I will be ordering next time) was the “Yo Hala on the square”. Two thick slices of challah bread stuffed with a mixture of bananas, brown sugar, cream cheese and hazelnut syrup, prepared like French toast. Topped with a blueberry strawberry compote! I couldn’t stop staring at this when it was repeatedly being brought out- I also think you can get a half order, because the full size was massive!
