Oh hey it’s me again, your boozy blogger pal. (also drinking a glass of white rn.) Today I’m teaming up with Luxardo Bitter Bianco, which is a white Italian Bitters made from the 200 year old Luxardo family distillery. This particular bitters is a wonderful alternative for sweet vermouth or red bitters. While it only has a tiny hint of sweetness, it has a delightful blend of citrus and herbaceous notes to delight your palette (yes, I just wrote that. Doesn’t it sound fantastically flowery?) Yes, it is still “bitter” but only gently so. Anyhoo, I don’t drink much hard liquor at home, even though we do have quite the full bar. If I were behind a bar, I would use the Bianco to create a twist on a Negroni, or possibly a blood orange or grapefruit martini (only marginally sweet mind you) with a fresh fruit twist on top. As a side note, and if you’re not familiar with the usage of bitters in a cocktail, it is something that you typically use in very small amounts. In a classic Manhattan cocktail, for example, you would only use a dash or two of red bitters.
Since I was at home, I wanted to make something that could be shared; because who, after all, wants to drink alone? Not I, said the cat. (In all seriousness, the weirdest one liners pop into my head while I’m typing. I don’t even know what’s that’s from but I’m going with it.)
As I was working on this post, I decided that I wanted to turn it- and our dinner for the evening-into an at-home picnic. What could I create with this that would be a great option for sharing with multiple people? Easy asnwer: SANGRIA. I decided to do a stone fruit sangria because I love the blend of sweetness and tartness (and plus I like to eat the macerated fruit afterward.) I chose peaches and cherries, with some blood orange peels for a little citrus zest. I’ve included the recipe for you all below.
Also, you may have noticed my beautiful pitcher and matching glasses (I know it’s hard to see in this photo but both the pitcher and glasses are etched with the cutest little flower pattern). These are courtesy of Warsaw Hand cut glass and are seriously the nicest quality. (They’d be perfect for a wedding or anniversary gift!) You can order them here. This beautiful set is something I hope to have in my collection for many years to come! Here’s a better photo of the the delicate pattern on these pieces, courtesy via their website, Warsaw Cut Glass:
