Brunch in Indy: The Gallery Pastry Shop

    February 12, 2018

Ok, team. If you can’t tell by now, I’m a bit of a brunch buff. Today’s post is brought to you by The Gallery Pastry Shop in Broadripple, and I AM SO EXCITED to share this post with y’all because this is literally my new fave spot. Aaron and I decided to check this place out for the first time about a month ago. I liked it soooo much, I asked if we could come back and do a post to share with my brunchin’ buds. The Gallery Pastry Shop

Located on 54th street, The Gallery Pastry shop is nestled in the back of the parking lot on the South side of the street. I wish the photos I took of the interior would have really captured the charm of the decor inside, but you’ll just have to put on your imagination glasses, or of course, stop on by to check them out.

If you’re looking for the new (well relatively) spot for brunch in town, trust me when I say this is it. Half price bottles on Sunday with a Drake playlist bumpin’?  Uh, Hi, my name is Kelli and I’m moving in.  (But like seriously, can I live here?)

Jointly owned by Alison Keefer and Chef Ben Hardy (who graduated as a Pastry Chef from Le Cordon Bleu International Culinary Academy), this spot is a conceptualization of my cozy, eclectic, hip-brunchy dreams.

They DO take reservations here, which is great considering a lot of breakfast/brunch joints don’t and you’re always on a million hour wait, especially if you come during prime hours.

You can see the chef and his cooks preparing everything in house, with a bar top that looks right into the kitchen.

Last time Drake was playing. This time it was Beyonce. (Ok, playlist of my champagne drinking fantasies.)

Plate ware and glass-ware are eclectic and mis-matched, lending a homey, old-world feel.

Everything is locally sourced and made in house.

Perfect crepes. Perfect runny eggs. Macaroons. Champagne. Rap music (again. I know I keep saying it but like, this place is really just the coolest.)

I’m guessing part of my love for this place stems from the European inspired dishes, beautiful plating, and the Frenchie feels I get from the menu itself. My sister is a French professor, and as such, I’ve been lucky enough to visit her in France on two different occasions. This menu reminds me of some of the fun travels I had in my 20’s!

Ok, so enough with my blabbing about how much I love this place, and let’s move on to the food photos- because that’s what you’ll all really here to see, right?

The Gallery Pastry Shop: Croissant with bruleed Tulip Tree Trillium, honey, pecans and fresh berry compte.

Above: Croissant w/ bruleed Tulip Tree Trillium, honey, pecans, fresh berry compote $8

Can I just say that while any soft cheese can make even the most abhorrent food palatable, the combination of this Trillium and berries with honey on this buttery, flaky, PERFECT croissant was right up my alley. I’m a bit of a “toast” gal- any type of bread or pastry with cheese and something sweet to compliment literally makes me swoon. SWOON.

The Gallery Pastry Shop: Brulee: Caramelized fruit with lemon curd.

Above: Bruleed grapefruit and blood orange with lemon curd. $3OMG. Ok. Can we talk about the presentation and the colors in this dish? Almost too pretty to eat. Almost. This was DELICIOUS and for only $3 you should definitely order one. One for each of you at the table. Do not share this, eat it all yourself.

The Gallery Pastry Shop: Blood Orange Mimosas

We started off with a blood mimosa each, but then went ahead and OF course ordered a bottle, b/c HALF PRICE, BRUH. I might add, they have an excellent and comprehensive cocktail and coffee selection, as well!

Ok, next up, we had the roasted Brussel sprouts, listed as a side dish, but had them as a starter.

The Gallery Pastry Shop: Roasted Brussel Sprouts with Bacon

Roasted Brussel sprouts, bacon, whipped Tulip Tree Nettle, toasted almonds, lemon zest $8

Brussels are one of my fave veggies, so this was a no-brainer, too. Roasted lightly, yet still a little crunchy (just the way I like ’em!)

2 Egg Hash: Potatos, chefs choice of veggie and cheese with daily meat, $15

The Gallery Pastry Shop: Crepes for Brunch

Here you can “build-your-own” crepes. I prefer savory breakfast foods so I went with two different meat-filled options of these pups. The Crepe on the left is filled with poblano peppers, mushroom mix, Nueske’s bacon, Smoking Goose Chorizo and Cheddar. The Crepe on the right is filled with asparagus, feta and parm with smoked salmon on the right.  (They give you a paper menu and you can circle which options you’d like as fillers for your own personalized dish!)
