Urban Senior Portraits- Ode to Indy’s Graffiti Scene

    June 23, 2015

Evenin’ blog fam. I’m super excited about tonight’s post- I recently just did the cutest senior portrait session downtown Indy with the cauuuutest, and one and only Klaire Lowry. I’m friends with her Mama ,Sarah. And when Sarah told me that she let Klaire choose her photographer by looking through about 5 photographers work- I was super flattered! I feel like this is a learning process for me and felt super honored that she liked my “style”. I was really excited to get to know Klaire and what kind of shoot would fit her personality best.

The only problem was, I had never met Klaire. Being good friends with Sarah (her mom) I asked here to fill out a brief “questionnaire” about her likes and dislikes to try to get a feel for her personal style and what she might like. We decided on colorful urban scenery and I suggested graffiti. A friend I work with suggested fountain square (Thanks Andy Henson)- which I highly recommend if any of you photographers out there are looking for some neat urban scenery.

We opted for bright colors in some photos, and muted tones in others. Klaire also loves music and is asking for a record player for her birthday, so I thought she might enjoy doing some photos in front of the DJ Top Speed mural at the end of Mass Ave.

Klaire is wearing a custom made flower crown from my Etsy shop. You can check out pre-made crowns or order a custom made one at this link: Big Hair and Foodie Fare’s Etsy Shop.

I also stumbled upon “Pixie Set”, another great resource for photographers. It’s a platform where you can upload your client’s photos, and they can view them and share them via social media platforms. The aesthetic is very visually pleasing, and it’s super simple to use. I uploaded a choice few for the client so she could share immediately on here phone, and all the edits via Dropbox so she could have a copy of everything and download them from there. You can take a gander at the Pixie Set platform and the page I created earlier here: http://kellibastinphotography.pixieset.com/klairelowry-seniorportraits/

Here are a few of my favorites from the shoot, and if you’d like to see more- feel free to visit the Pixie Set Link above.

This one is my personal favorite! I had Sarah bring along a cup-  and I requested one with a straw. I feel like props (even simple ones) help add a touch of interest to a photo. Eh?

Yea yea, I know there are tons of awesome murals and graffiti spots downtown Indy, but I have to say this little fella was our favorite. The colors were amazing bright- not to mention a little girly and he’s such a cute little guy! Don’t forget to check out the Pixie Set link above for more photos!

I’m always looking for new and fun ideas and props for photos. Suggestions and cc welcome y’all!

    xoxo Kelli
