Indianapolis: Canal Bistro, Mediterannean Cuisine: Big Hair and Foodie Fare

In light of the tragic news of Santorini (my fave Greek restaurant in Indy) closing recently, I was so exited to stumble into Canal Bistro, which I had no idea was Mediterranean inspired cuisine. I’ve walked by this place a million times, but had just never been inside. Well, friends. If you’re like me and have never been in, and you’re hankerin’ for a badass lamb kabob, look no further. The decor and ambience are also SAHHH kewt. Lots of natural light, bistro style tables and Mediterannean inspired decor, including lots of beautiful light fixtures that really just add that “special something”.  I’m currently asking Aaron to take me back soon for a fun little date.

I had the Gyro salad, a fab option if you’re looking for something with fewer carbs. Ashley had the lamb kabob, which came out piping hot and our oh, so sweet server Emily, removed the kabob skewers table side for us. To so be honest, I wasn’t A. planning on eating here or B. writing a food post on this place. Ashley and I were out taking some blog photos and kind of stumbled inside. However, when I walked in the door I was like, “HOT DAMN this place is kewt” and we decided to go for it! Plus, Ashley has Greek heritage and LOVES Greek food, so we had to stay. I mean, duh! Once we saw the menu and the food came out, I was so happy I just happened to have my camera with me. What a nice little surprise!

Feta Garlic Fries. Potatoes and cheese are the way to my heart.

Guys, can I tell you how wonderful our server Emily was? I’ve been in the service industry for almost 10 years. I’ve been the bartender, I’ve been the server and I know how it is. And I can honestly say-Emily was WONDERFUL. Ashley and I came in, all basic, taking photos, taking forever to put our order in and in all honesty, even if Emily thought we were annoying she was so kind and conversational. She’s worked there forever and I highly recommend requesting her if you guys go in.

They also have a full bar, including bubbles which of course, Ash and I COULDN’T pass up.

They also serve pita with dipping oil and herbs as a starter. BONUS!

And as I’m going through these photos, I’m realizing I didn’t take a photo of my Gyro salad and I’m pretty bummed bc it was so fab. You guys will just have to take my word for it, I suppose.

Another salad I’ll have to add to my list! Canal bistro is heavenly. Bosphorus Cafe is another great Mediterranean restaurant.
