Hiya y’all and happy Friday! Today’s post is an SUPER easy DIY grapefruit ginger sugar scrub. To be honest, I’ve always like making things and crafting- but I only decided to make my own sugar scrub because my supply was running out. The sugar scrub I had been using was a gift from my sister- also homemade. AND it was AMAZING.

So most people don’t use a scrub every time they shower, but I do. I feel like it makes my skin glow, and  so much softer and smoother. Not to mention- I get rough patches from shaving and razor burn. This scrub is great for those areas! I use it on my under arms, bikini, and back of my legs. I even use it on my face! AND, the great part is there are no harsh chemicals or additives so you know exactly what you’re putting on your skin!

This particular scrub I made with coconut oil -because now I’m on a coconut oil kick. I recently read a book entitled “The Coconut Oil Miracle.” Good stuff. Not only good for your insides, but your  outsides too (Eczema, Psoriasis, scarring, dry skin, etc.)! (I highly recommend it and you can click on the photo link below to purchase on Amazon). It even includes several coconut oil recipes!

Anywho- here’s how to make your own sugar scrub: the essential oils are interchangable and you can use whatever scents you’d like. I personally love grapefruit and ginger, so I made my own oil using both ingredients. I feel like the two scents together just smell fresh and clean, like citrusy-summer!

    Ingredients:

    • 2 cups of organic coconut oil, melted but not super hot
    • 5 cups of white sugar
    • essential oils of your choice (I chose grapefruit and ginger). (I used 2 Tablespoons of the oil).
    • I also added fresh grated ginger and grapefruit zest. (2 tablespoons ginger, and zest from two grapefruits)
    • Mix together using your Kitchen aid mixer or you can even use your hands.

I didn’t want to go out and buy essential oils, so I made my own. I peeled 3 large grapefruits using a vegetable peeler and put the peels in a sauce pan. Then, I grated 1/2 a piece of fresh ginger (about an 3 tablespoons totally probably) and added this to the sauce pan. I then just barely covered it in a 1/2 and 1/2 combination of olive oil and coconut oil. I let this simmer on low heat, occasionally stirring for about 90 minutes. You also save the left over oil and use it for cooking fish or seafood!

    This recipe makes:

    • 12 Quarter pints (if you want to give them out as gifts)
    • 6 half pints
    • or 3 pints

Side note!!! If you’re using ball jars, don’t keep them in the shower or tub- the lids will get rusty and you wont be able to reuse them. Take the jar out of the shower after use and dry it off every time!

That’s it. It’s seriously that easy!

    Happy Scrubbing y’all!
